澳洲 Australian excursion

In Sydney, Australia right now for my cousins wedding. It’s been a week and boy oh boy, it will be hard to leave (tomorrow). Being here is being like home in California—incredible food, wine and amazing weather, clean air and gorgeous beaches and sights. Every meal has been epic. Went to a few galleries today and the contemporary art museum…saw a nice Heri Dono show at Sherman galleries in Paddington and some nice Li Songsong-esque landscapes at Ray Hughes Gallery in Surry Hills.

Tomorrow I head back to chilly and polluted Beijing :), alas this summery excursion will soon fade away into distant memory…

back in Beijing

Returned from the States a few days ago and have been recovering from jetlag. It is nice to be back in Beijing but also strange, since I realize how much I needed the perpsective/time away. Life here can be rough. And as we head into winter I am reminded of this again. anyway, more posts/pictures from some art shows here and there coming soon!

neighborhood facelift

a quick sidebar (and indicator of how fast things change in China)...I returned to my Beijing apartment and went out for a walk and noticed that all of the store signs along my street had been changed to a more 'polished' and uniform look. previously they were different heights, sizes and colors/logos. what was weird was that south of the stoplight they look like this:

and north of the stoplight (all along one smallish street, mind you), they look like this:

something tells me this is just the beginning...wonder what other changes are in store!
